* Microscope

SHIMA has installed a new microscope lens.

SHIMA has previously used a microscope with a 25X - 175X magnifications lens; however, we have upgraded to a lens that is 100X - 1000X in magnification; therefore, we are able to examine areas of detail more thoroughly.

By using the microscope in combination with an x-ray checking device, our analysis can be more reliable.
These benefits also extend to our customers.

* Advantages of using a 1000X magnifications lens

In the past it was impossible to tell weather or not a piece of solder on a circuit board was a pressed solder ball, a stray piece of solder or if there was another reason for the misplaced solder However, by using a 1000X magnifications lens, we are able to examine it's texture. In this case, we are able to see a that a solder ball was crushed and stuck close to the metal surface on the board.

We found that this caused the circuit board making vendor used to use water that contained solder for washing;therefore, the solder in the water was stuck and pressed on the circuit board.

We asked the vendor to change the washing water so this problem was solved.

In this way, by using 100 - 1000 magnifications lens,SHIMA can promise higher level of analyzing skill and customer's satisfaction.

* X-ray Testing Equipment

Recently, high density circuit boards have become widely used; therefore, BGA and Chip Size Package (CSP) are commonly used. To make BGA's and CSP's quality and analysis of sub-standard boards better, SHIMA installed x-ray testing equipment in 2004 to provide high quality manufactured goods to all of our customers.
